Mediation is a rational and efficient way to resolve conflict in the mass media.
Mediation is an effective alternative to resolution of disputes by the judicial, state and law enforcement bodies to which parties usually bring media issues.
In the last years the Media Commissioner Institute has focused on the development of mediation in Kyrgyzstan as one of the highest priorities for its activities.
In 2004 – 2006 the Media Commissioner has facilitated the mediation of five cases in the area of mass media. Mediation was held between the following parties: the “MSN” and “Slovo Kyrgyzstana” newspapers; “MercyCo International” and “Moskovskii Komsomolets v Kyrgyzstane” newspapers; independent newspaper “Tribuna” and the CEC of the Kyrgyz Republic; the newspaper “Batken Tany” and Information Analysis department of the CEC of the Kyrgyz Republic; TVR “Pyramida” and “Areopag” company (Media Invest).
